THE BRIEF

Produced for Red Bull Italia ahead of the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games, I'M COMING HOME followed three of Italy's most accomplished winter athletes during a real day of training.

Built around the themes of past, present, and future, the series combined documentary storytelling, intimate conversations, and high-performance sport to create three long-form editorial films released through Eurosport Italia.

Ahead of Milano-Cortina 2026 and before the blackout period imposed by Rule 40, Red Bull Italia set out to tell the stories of three of its most iconic athletes: Sofia Goggia, Dominik Paris, and Dorothea Wierer.

The objective was not to create a traditional athlete profile, but to capture a more personal perspective. Each episode would follow an athlete during a real day of training while exploring three different dimensions of their journey: the experiences that shaped them, the realities of elite performance today, and the ambitions that lay ahead.

The result would be a three-part editorial series designed to feel intimate, raw, and exclusive — placing the audience alongside the athletes rather than observing them from a distance.

CREATIVE APPROACH

The series was structured around three chapters: Past, Present, and Future.

The Present formed the backbone of each episode. Rather than staging moments for the camera, the goal was to document training as it happened, adopting a fly-on-the-wall approach that respected the athlete's routines and environment. Camera movement, sound design, and editing were intentionally restrained, allowing performance and personality to drive the narrative.

The Past was explored through personal photographs and career milestones, creating opportunities for reflection during natural pauses in the training day. The Future was captured through a dedicated sit-down interview focused on life beyond competition and the approaching Olympic Games.

With no voice-over and minimal use of music, the series relied on authentic conversations, ambient sound, and observation to create a sense of proximity rarely seen in traditional sports content.

PRODUCTION

The project required weeks of preparation before cameras ever rolled. Extensive pre-production involved coordination with athletes, coaches, managers, locations, and Red Bull's internal teams, while schedules continued to evolve until the final days before production.

Filming took place across multiple locations in Italy, with only a day and a half allocated to each athlete. During the same production window, Red Bull teams were also creating social content and photography assets, requiring careful coordination and efficient use of limited access.

The series was produced by a compact specialist crew consisting of a director, two camera operators, a field sound recordist, and a drone/FPV operator. Depending on the athlete and environment, additional systems included ski-mounted cameras, rifle-mounted cameras, FPV drones, and custom action-camera rigs.

Some of the most demanding sequences involved filming Sofia Goggia during downhill training at speeds exceeding 130 km/h. Capturing these moments required detailed planning, close collaboration with coaches, and precise coordination across multiple camera positions while operating in a high-speed alpine environment.

Beyond production, FASTPACE managed the entire post-production process, including editing, color grading, delivery supervision, and broadcast compliance. Three 10-minute episodes and their accompanying trailers were delivered according to Red Bull's technical specifications, including audio loudness, codec, and color-space requirements.
